Floor boards from the husband's childhood homestead barn line the feature wall; Lights are made of antique oil lanterns from the 1887 homestead farmhouse.
Rustic door from Habitat for Humanity Restore, 100-year-old cabinetry with antique baby bathtub repurposed as a sink, and blue and clear glass telephone pole insulator lights.
Antique doorknobs fashioned into a unique towel rack next to the tub-shower.
The ceiling is lined with painted 1.5" rough-sawn wall laths, which adds to the "old farmhouse" ambiance of the space
New tub fixture with subway tile and new antique-look floor tile combined with ladder towel rack from husband's childhood farm and shower curtain made from wife's family heirloom bedspread.
Because the sewer lines were at waist-level, a sewage lift station was a necessary component
This bathroom addition illustrates the versatility, creativity, and craftsmanship that can be applied to your project. The bathroom was added as the last step to a basement remodel that had been completed several years earlier.
The homeowner calls this her "Pinterest Bathroom." It contains multiple features that are historical family heirlooms. The bathroom integrates from the husband's childhood farm homestead. The wall behind the toilet is lined with rough floor boards from the homestead barn. The lights on that same wall are made from parts of the antique oil lanterns that were originally in the 1887 farmhouse. Similarly, the wooden ladder that was used on the farm for generations offers shelving and a series of multi-height towel bars. The glass covers for the new high-efficiency LED lights in front of the mirror are made from glass telephone pole insulators that the husband had collected over the years. One of the wife's childhood bedspreads was crafted to be incorporated into the shower curtain.
The cabinetry was purchased by the homeowners at a local antique store and modified to fit the space. The wife found the antique baby bathtub, which was modified into the vanity sink. The doorknobs serve as towel hangers. The door is from the local Habitat for Humanity Restore. Because the color fit the planned scheme of the room, it was decided that we'd leave it unpainted and modify it to fit into the existing oak door frame.
The tub and toilet are the only new fixtures in the bathroom. Subway tile was installed in the shower, and new tile with an antique look was installed on the floor.
Because the sewer lines were at waist-level, a sewage lift station was a necessary component. The ceiling was lined with painted 1.5" rough-sawn wall laths, which added to the "old farmhouse" ambiance of the space.
Not all projects are this challenging, but we're willing and capable of embracing the uniqueness and intricacy of any endeavor to create a space that truly reflects our clients' vision and stories, just like this "Pinterest Bathroom."
